More than a third of parents have no life assurance, putting their families at risk of financial ruin, according to research by Scottish Widows. But, with premiums as low as £6 a month for £100,000 of cover, it's easy and cheap to put protection in place. And life assurance is a form of insurance that guarantees you a payment at the appropriate time.
"The cost of raising a family is expensive but the costs that dependants would face if a parent died would be far greater," says a Scottish Widows spokesperson.
The research also found that 20% of families fail to take out life assurance to cover their mortgages - a failing that puts the family home at risk.
